1. Introduction

1.1 Welcome to Veil LLC

Welcome to Veil LLC (“Veil”), the premier provider of real-world treasure-hunting experiences. We design and manage immersive, skill-based treasure hunts that combine physical exploration with mental strategy. By participating, users embark on a modern adventure that taps into instincts of discovery, problem-solving, and competition.

1.2 Types of Treasure Hunts

Veil offers multiple types of treasure hunts, categorized primarily as Public Hunts and Sponsored Private Hunts. Each hunt varies in its duration, location, nature of clues, and types of prizes available. All hunts include clues and a shrinking search area.

Public Hunts: These hunts are open to the general public and typically range from 1 to 4 weeks. The search area is initially broad and gradually shrinks daily over the course of the hunt, culminating in a final day where the area is reduced to a 10 foot-wide zone centered directly over the treasure’s location.

Sponsored Private Hunts: These are custom hunts designed for private groups, organizations, or promotional events. The duration, shape of the search area, and nature of clues vary as defined by the sponsor.

1.3 Clues and Prize Variability

Each hunt features daily clues provided to participants. Clues may take various forms, including but not limited to:

  • Riddles
  • Images
  • Map-based hints
  • Cryptographic puzzles

Prizes awarded in Veil hunts may include:

  • Physical Treasures: Items of inherent value such as gold, silver, gems, cash, or collectible artifacts.
  • Proxy Treasures: Objects representing a known prize, such as cash, cars or other high-value items.
  • Reward: A monetary prize that grows as a percentage of sign-up fees, awarded in accordance with state law.

Prizes will be declared on each hunt page. Prize eligibility varies by state.

1.4 Determining the Winner

A hunt concludes when a participant physically touches the treasure. Upon identifying the treasure’s location, participants must make immediate contact. Any attempt to delay claiming the treasure for any reason, including waiting for a reward to increase, will be deemed a violation of game rules. Veil reserves the right to cease new sign-ups and freeze the reward for the hunt based on the presumed moment of discovery and will then award the prize to the first person to touch the treasure.

If the trail cam becomes inactive or malfunctions, rendering the determination of the winner impossible, the hunt will be paused as of the last transmitted image and there will be a temporary freeze on new sign-ups and the reward. In this instance, the treasure is still eligible to be found.

2. Terms of Participation

2.1 Acceptance of Agreement

By accessing or using Veil’s services, participants agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions, as well as additional policies, including but not limited to:

  • Privacy Policy
  • Risk Waiver

These terms are known collectively as the “Agreement”. By choosing to use Veil’s services, you are entering into a binding agreement. If you do not agree to these terms, you must immediately discontinue use of Veil’s services.

2.2 Eligibility and Age Restrictions

Participants must be at least 18 years old to engage in Veil’s treasure hunts. Minors under 18 may participate only with the consent and direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who assumes full responsibility for their participation.

2.3 Financial Responsibility

Participants are responsible for any costs associated with participation, including but not limited to:

  • Internet access fees
  • Travel and accommodation expenses
  • Personal equipment costs (e.g., hiking gear, GPS devices)

2.4 Geographic Restrictions

Veil’s services are available only in states where skill-based contests are legally permitted. Users are responsible for ensuring compliance with local laws before participating.

2.5 Prohibited Users

Employees, affiliates, vendors, and immediate family members of Veil staff are prohibited from participating in active hunts.

2.6 User Information

Accurate and current information is required for account creation. Misrepresentation of personal information, including name, age, and state of residence may result in account suspension or termination.

2.7 Account Responsibility and Security

You are responsible for all activity on your account. Keep your password confidential and notify Veil immediately of unauthorized account access.

2.8 Account Termination

Veil reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts at its discretion. Termination results in the loss of account content and access to services. Any fees paid to Veil for participation in past, current, or upcoming hunts will not be refunded.

2.9 Refunds

All sales are final. No refunds on active hunts under any circumstance. Hunts are considered active until both the treasure is found and the reward is issued. In the unlikely event that a reward is not collected, a reward-only hunt will resume as a new circle in the approximate area of the original hunt.

Anyone who signs up for a hunt in the short time between when the treasure is discovered and when payment is closed will be refunded.

2.10 Permission to Appear on Trail Cam

By signing up and searching for the treasure you agree to be shown on the trail camera and website. In accepting the prize you agree that Veil owns the images taken by its trail cams at the treasure site. If you bring other people with you to search you acknowledge that you have made them aware of the Veil hunt, rules, and terms and conditions.

3. Gameplay Rules and Responsibilities

3.1 Fair Play and Code of Conduct

Participants must engage in treasure hunts fairly, ethically, and lawfully. Users and their affiliates may not reverse engineer, extract, distribute, or misuse Veil’s Services, among other prohibitions detailed in the full Agreement. The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification:

  • Tampering with Veil’s systems: Any form of hacking, unauthorized access, or manipulation of Veil’s website, code, software, servers, and hardware, including trail cameras, drones, treasures, treasure placements or any other part of Veil’s service.
  • Stalking or harassment: Stalking, tracking, spying on, or violating the privacy of Veil employees, affiliates, or fellow participants.
  • Premature discovery: Attempts to locate the treasure before an official hunt begins, such as unauthorized surveillance of Veil’s placement activities.
  • Leaking confidential clues: Any sharing or unauthorized distribution of paid clues or hints is forbidden. Accounts found engaging in leaks will be permanently banned without warning and without refund.
  • Physical misconduct: Any violence, dangerous behavior, or physical altercation in the pursuit of treasure will result in disqualification and forfeiture of the prize.
  • Unlawful use of technology: Use of drones for aerial imagery or any other technology except with permission from appropriate stakeholders and authorities and where permitted by law.
  • Behavior on Trail Cam: Profane or infringing messaging, nudity, illegal or offensive material and other explicit or indecent acts.
  • Unlawful access or trespass: Use of land, property or structures except with permission and where permitted by law.

Anyone who otherwise attempts to gain a competitive advantage by identifying a treasure’s location before that treasure is placed and its hunt is activated will be removed and all treasures, rewards, prizes and buy-in fees will be forfeited. Failure to comply may lead to temporary suspension or permanent termination of access to our Services and pursuit of legal damages to the fullest extent of the law.

3.2 Safety and Personal Responsibility

All users participate in searches at their own risk and are required to adhere to all laws governing the areas where they are searching. Veil is not liable for any accidents, injuries, or illegal activities associated with user participation. Always use your judgment when deciding if the direction you are heading feels safe. Always practice safe hiking techniques.

Treasure hunting involves physical activity, sometimes in rugged environments. Recommended precautions include:

  • Carry adequate water, a trail map, a compass, GPS-enabled technology with spare batteries, and appropriate wildlife deterrents (like noise-makers and bear spray)
  • Wear orange and/or bright clothing for visibility.
  • Preview your intended search area with a friend or loved one prior to beginning your search each day, including where you are hiking and when you plan to return.
  • Leave No Trace. Any object you bring to the site must leave with you.

As many hunts will be in forests and other natural locations, many hunts may not be wheelchair accessible and may require moderate physical activity to reach.

We do not recommend hiking at night.

For Public Veil treasure hunts, treasure will only be hidden on public land in locations that are safe to access. For Private Veil Hunts, the safe and operable bounds of the hunt will be identified on the map. The treasure may be placed in an area with active hunting activity. Veil will take precautions to avoid seasonal and large game hunting, through many public lands permit hunting year round, especially for small game and fowl. If a drone is used to document a hunt, Veil ensures full compliance with FAA regulations and local airspace laws.

3.3 Permissions

Services are for non-commercial use only. Commercial use without Veil’s written consent is prohibited. Veil grants a revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access the Services. All commercial rights to Veil’s Services are reserved exclusively for Veil.

4. Prizes and Winner Requirements

4.1 Claiming a Prize

The term PRIZE refers to the collective TREASURE and REWARD.

TREASURE: While hunts will feature real treasures of inherent value, most hunts will use a proxy treasure–a stand-in item of no real value. Proxy treasures will feature a secret code that will be used to authenticate the finder.

REWARD: Where permitted by law, hunts will often feature a reward. Rewards are an increasing pool of money comprising a portion of all of the fees paid by users for that particular hunt. The reward value is determined at the moment of discovery to the exact minute and second.

Once authenticated, the advertised prize (treasure, or treasure and reward) will be sent to the finder.

To be eligible for a prize, the winner must:

  • Be the first person to physically touch the treasure.
  • Provide video documentation clearly showing their face and surroundings.
  • Retrieve and return all Veil-provided hardware at the site location using a prepaid shipping label provided by Veil. Shipment must be made within 7 days of discovery. Locations and quantities of all hardware at the treasure site will be noted on a card at the base of the treasure and include the trail cam, mount, solar light, bag, and discovery card. Equipment must be received with no issues or alterations. Anyone found to have tampered with the equipment in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage in a future hunt will be disqualified and the prize will be forfeited. If proof of retrieval can be provided, the value of any equipment or hardware that is not returned to Veil will be deducted from the winner’s prize. If proof of retrieval is not provided, the value of any equipment or hardware that is not returned to Veil will be deducted along with the cost incurred to Veil to retrieve the equipment and hardware, including door-to-door costs from Philadelphia, PA for transportation (including airfare ($0.50 per mile), rentals, fuel ($0.70 per mile) and accommodations.
  • Complete necessary tax documentation and provide valid proof of identity (a government-issued ID), and residency.
  • Undergo a background check at the discretion of Veil.

Once physically touched, the treasure becomes the property of the individual who discovers it. Other equipment and hardware found at the treasure site, including the trail cam, trail cam mount, solar light, bag/backpack, and finders card are the sole property of Veil and must be returned to Veil unaltered to be eligible for the prize.

Upon discovery, Veil will notify participants that the treasure has been discovered and the hunt has concluded.

4.2 Prize Payment and Forfeiture

Monetary prizes will be paid in a single lump sum. Winners have 30 days to claim their prize; failure to do so may result in forfeiture.

Veil implements a 30 day probationary review to confirm the finder’s eligibility and authenticate finder status to ensure no contests.

Forfeited prizes may be reallocated into future hunts or otherwise allocated at the discretion of Veil.

All taxes on prizes are the responsibility of the winner.

4.3 Promotional Participation

Winners agree to participate in promotional activities within 30 days of discovery without additional compensation, including but not limited to photos, video, audio, interviews, testimonials, except where anonymity is required by local, state or federal law.

5. Legal Terms

5.1 Dispute Resolution

Users must respect the intellectual property rights of third parties.

5.6 Modification and Loss of Services

Veil may modify, suspend, or cancel Services without notice. Veil is not liable for disruptions caused by unforeseen events, including but not limited to weather, natural disasters, or technical failures. In the event of a technical failure, or if a trail cam stops working, we will make every attempt to switch the feed to a backup cam and will share information on its proximity and location with respect to the original cam and treasure.
