SAFE HUNTING TIPS
Updated Aug 14, 2025
Before heading outdoors to search for the treasure, it is important to tell a friend or loved one where you are searching and when you will be expected back. As a courtesy to players, we’ve included a private logbook for players to note this information. In the extreme event that a player is reported missing by authorities, we will use this information to guide search teams to the player’s possible location. We encourage all players to submit their search plan before venturing out for that day’s search.
VEIL HUNTS
- The treasure will never be placed in an area that requires a dangerous hike to access. Always be aware of your surroundings. Watch for cliffs, loose rocks, deep water and thick brush.
- Treasures are hidden on public land and may be placed in an area with active hunting activity. Many public lands permit hunting year round, especially for small game and fowl.
SAFE HIKING TECHNIQUES
- Know your limits, pace yourself, and plan your route and search accordingly.
- Check weather for sudden changes.
- Wear appropriate hiking equipment, including waterproof hiking boots, long socks, pants, long shirts, rain jacket, hat, gloves, head and neck protection, bug spray, tick prevention treatment, water, food, a compass, whistle, physical and digital trail maps and topographic maps, a flashlight or emergency light source, a first aid kit, a gps-enabled navigation and communication device and backup batteries.
- Scan for hazards including snakes, wasp nests, dangerous terrain.
- Avoid bramble and briar patches and bushwacking through heavy vegetation as these areas can be a haven for ticks.
- Check for ticks frequently and remove them promptly.

- Educate yourself on how to identify poisonous plants and animals in the area you intend to explore.
- Be bear aware. Make your presence known. Call out periodically and/or wear noisemaking items (like a rattling can) to deter wildlife.
- Always let someone know where you are hiking and when you plan to return.
- Always wear high visibility clothing.
- Do not hikinge in inclement weather like rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, high winds, or lightning.in the presence of lightning.
- Research additional safe hiking techniques and hike with a partner when possible.
A card beneath the treasure will give instructions on how to clear the site, safely exit the premises, and collect your reward.
If you find the treasure, we recommend you do not tell anyone between when you pick it up and when you notify Veil to confirm your first finder status. Veil will leave a small unmarked bag at the site to collect the trail cams and game hardware. We advise you to place the treasure in the bag hidden away and to act as if you don’t have it.
